The American University women's basketball team is currently riding a six-game winning streak, which includes a perfect 5-0 start in Patriot League play for the first time in program history. The Eagles will look to extend their winning ways when they visit Navy on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m.
American (12-7, 5-0 Patriot League) is led this season by junior Michelle Kirk, who currently leads the Patriot League at 19.9 points per game, placing her 15th in the country. The Painted Post, N.Y., native ranks in the top three in the conference in three-point percentage (42.2 percent), three-point field goals made (2.3 per game), and free throw percentage (83.8 percent). She has been selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week in each of the last three weeks and five total times this season.
The Eagles have won each of their two road games in the Patriot League, most recently defeating Holy Cross, 64-51, on Sunday in front of a nationwide audience on CBS College Sports Network. Kirk led the Eagles with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Liz Leer and Raven Harris each chipped in 15 points. Harris' output set a new career-high, and she also contributed three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Navy (11-9, 3-2 PL) enters Wednesday's action after posting two victories last week in conference play. The Midshipmen defeated Holy Cross and Army by a combined 24 points in its previous two games. Cassie Consedine has paced Navy this season with 10.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest, while Angela Myers contributes 10.0 points per game.
Navy defeated the Eagles in both matchups last season, posting a 68-61 win at Bender Arena and a 59-56 victory at Navy last February. Before last year, American had won five of the previous six meetings. AU's last win in Annapolis came on January 30, 2008, a 59-52 victory. The Eagles are 6-10 all-time at Navy.
