WASHINGTON -- Three Eagles finished with double digits in scoring as American avenged its 68-60 loss to Lehigh on Jan. 23 with a 69-57 victory over the Mountain Hawks on Saturday at Bender Arena. With the victory, American created a tie for third place in the Patriot League standings at 7-5 with the Bethlehem squad behind Holy Cross and Bucknell who are tied for first.
The Eagles (12-12, 7-5 PL) led for most of the first half, despite allowing 13 points by Lehigh's Anne Tierney and shooting just 32.4 percent from the floor. But poor shooting by the Mountain Hawks (31.3 percent) gave American a 30-25 halftime lead.
American opened the game up to an eight-point lead until going on a 14-5 run with four minutes to go and securing a large enough margin to hold on for the 12-point victory over Lehigh (11-14, 7-5 PL).
Both teams struggled from the free throw line with American shooting just three-of-11 and Lehigh going five-of-11 from the charity stripe.
Hollie Steinman led the Eagles with 14 points and 11 rebounds, recording her fourth double-double of the season. Kaitlin Schuyler notched 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Angel McNatt came off the bench to record a career-high 10 points.
Tierney managed just four points in the second half to finish with a game-high 17 while being held to just four boards. Reserve guard Billi Ford picked up 12 points on five-of-six shooting in the loss.
American wraps up the remainder of its regular season with a game at Navy on Wednesday at 5:15, followed by the final home game of the season against Holy Cross on Feb. 23 at 3:15 p.m.
