A former pupil of Head Coach Mark Cody's and a 2004 Olympian, Brad Vering brings to the AU coaching staff a wealth of collegiate and international experience.
Since graduating from the University of Nebraska in 2001, Vering has established himself as one of the nation's premier Greco-Roman wrestlers. In the last year alone, Vering has won a silver medal at the Senior-World Wrestling Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, a gold medal at the Pan American Games and captured his fourth U.S. Senior National Title.
In 2004, Vering represented the United States as a member of the Olympic wrestling team at the Athens Olympics. Vering went 1-1 in Olympic competition, defeating Mukhran Vakhtangadze of Georgia, 4-0. He qualified for the Olympics by capturing the Olympic Trials Championship. In each of the two years before qualifying for the Olympics, Vering won the U.S. National Championships at 84kg and placed fifth at the World Championships.
As a collegian at Nebraska, Cody coached Vering to a NCAA Championship at 197 lbs. in 2000 and three All-America honors. To this day, Vering ranks fourth on the Cornhuskers Career Wins list with a career record of 124-26 and ranks in their top-10 lists of career win percentage, dual meet win percentage and most wins in a season. Vering also won titles in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle at the University Nationals.
In high school, the Nebraska native was a three-time state champion.
Vering is currently splitting time between American and Colorado Springs where he is training to defend his Olympic Trials title in 2008.
