Ruslandbek (Ruslan) Madjinov begins his second year as a volunteer assistant coach with the American University wrestling team. Madjinov brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to AU's wrestling squad. Although he never wrestled at the collegiate level in the U.S., he has earned numerous impressive credentials in the world of international wrestling. Madjinov has amassed nine years of coaching experience with the Kyrgyzstan National Team. As a wrestler, he uses a wide open unique style and is known as one of the best technicians in the international freestyle community. In the 1999 Asian Championships Madjinov took second place. In 1998 he took fourth at the World Championships and came in second at the Central Asian Games. From 1989 to 1995, Madjinov finished first in the Kyrgyzstan National Championships. In 1989 he placed third in the USSR Juniors, captured first in the 1991 USSR Cup and fifth in the 1992 Seniors. A native of Kyrgyzstan, Madjinov currently resides in Washington, D.C.
