Richard Perry enters his first season as an assistant coach on the American University wrestling staff. He is responsible for working with the Eagles’ upper-weight wrestlers, as well as handling recruiting duties.
Perry comes to AU after a standout collegiate career at Bloomsburg University. A three-time NCAA qualifier and two-time team captain for the Huskies, Perry earned All-America status at the 2014 Asics FILA Cadet and University National Championships.
He finished his four seasons at Bloomsburg with a 110-30 overall record. In 2014, he had a 31-match winning streak, setting a school record, and captured the Eastern Wrestling League individual title at 197 pounds.
Perry’s coaching experience includes time with the Warsaw Team X Wrestling Club. He organized the club participants in preparation for the Fargo 2014 competition in freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines, including practice planning and conducting workouts focused on conditioning, lifting and technique.
Perry, who continues to compete and train towards winning a world championship in men’s freestyle, graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.
