A berth in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association final, a career milestone reached and a third invitation to the NCAA Championships made up Josh Terao's weekend.
Terao, a redshirt senior from Honolulu, Hawaii, was selected as the GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 10 in honor of his performance at the EIWA Championships.
A victory in his first match on Friday was the 100th of his career, making him the ninth Eagle ever to reach that plateau. That victory, a 19-4 technical fall over Princeton's Jonathan Gomez, tied his own single-season school record with eight and improved his own career school record to 22.
Two more bonus-point wins – a 4:07 pin of Zack Trampe of Binghamton and a 14-3 major decision over Brandon Paetzell of Lehigh – put Terao in the 133-pound final.
He lost 9-4 to top-seeded Chas Tucker of Cornell in the final, but will be only the seventh AU wrestler ever to qualify for three NCAA Championships. He will be one of at least four Eagles to compete at nationals, to be held March 21 to 23 in Pittsburgh.
