2017-18 (Redshirt) – Had a strong debut season as a collegian, competing in open tournaments… Placed at three of the seven tournaments… Went 3-1 to finish 2nd at the Storm Open (12/3), opening with a 1:17 WBF over Joe Newara of Gannon… Lost to unattached wrestler Jared Campbell, 19-11, in the final… Also placed 2nd at the Messiah Open (2/3), going 4-1… Had two major decisions on his way to a 3-2 (TB-2) win in the semifinal over Daniel Herman of Columbia… Lost 4-1 to Austin Amos of Liberty in the final… Placed 4th at the Wilkes Open (12/22), going 3-2… Lost to AU teammate Brett Dempsey in the championship… Went 2-2 at the Clarion Open and 2-2 at the Shorty Hitchcock Classic… Lost his opener at the Lehman/F&M Open (1/56) before winning three straight decisions… Went 1-2 at the National Collegiate Open (2/25), winning his opening match, 9-3, over Brady Daniel of Arizona State.

BEFORE AU – Attended Bethlehem Catholic HS… Two-time state place-winner in Pennsylvania… Finished 4th as a junior and 5th as a senior in PIAA Class AAA. Went 42-5 in both his junior and senior seasons… District and region champion as a senior… Finished his three-year high school career with 93-19 record… High school coach was Jeff Karam… Champion of both the Ironman and King of the Mountain events… Second team all-state honoree in football.

PERSONAL – Mother is Kathy Cruz… Has a younger sibling… Hopes to major in political science with a projected minor in economics… Honor roll student at Bethlehem Catholic.
