AU's wrestling alumni were honored at intermission on Sunday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior heavyweight Brett Dempsey scored his second fall of the season and ran his winning streak to six matches, but American fell to Drexel, 25-16, in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association dual match on Sunday.

The Eagles fell to 6-6 in dual matches and 3-3 against EIWA opponents. The Dragons improved to 11-4 and 5-4 in the league.

American won four matches on the day in a dual that featured a combined 10 wrestlers who were ranked nationally coming into the event.

Dempsey, ranked 26th, pinned freshman Sean O'Malley at 6:18 to improve to 13-8 on the season.

Junior Michael Sprague, ranked 19th at 149 pounds, also got a bonus-point win for the Eagles. He used a five-point final period to earn a 10-2 major decision over Evan Barczak that gave AU a 7-0 lead in the team score.

Drexel then won five straight matches to take a 22-7 lead, including a 2:55 pin by 26th-ranked Alex DeCiantis and a forfeit of the 197-pound bout.

AU freshman Gage Curry stopped the string with a 3-2 win over Zack Fuentes at 125, winning his third straight match.

Fourth-ranked Austin DeSanto then edged No. 9 Josh Terao in the final bout of the day, earning a quick takedown in overtime to give the Dragons a 12-10 win.

AU redshirt freshman Kizhan Clarke opened the dual at 141 by earning a 3-1 victory. Clarke has won seven of his last nine bouts for the Eagles and broke a 1-1 tie with a takedown with 11 seconds remaining.

American finishes its regular season with a pair of duals next week. The Eagles travel to George Mason for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday before returning home for Senior Night on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Ohio Univ.
