@AU_Wrestling Faces Ranked Teams at UNC Duals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A total of 17 nationally ranked wrestlers and four nationally ranked teams will battle each other on Friday as American University faces North Carolina, Duke and Wyoming at the UNC Duals.

The Eagles, slotted 24th in the most recent TrackWrestling.com team rankings, will open the day against No. 21 North Carolina at 11 a.m. American will also face 23rd-ranked Duke at 6 p.m. and 15th-ranked Wyoming at 8 p.m. on a busy Friday.

American comes into the UNC Duals with a 1-1 dual-match record, having beaten Campbell and lost to Eastern Michigan in the season-openers back in early November. AU's strongest team finish of the fall came at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, where the Eagles placed a school-best 11th.

In its most recent outing, at the Wilkes Open on Dec. 22, AU earned 10 place-winners led by redshirt junior Josh Terao and senior Jeric Kasunic, who won their brackets.

Terao is ranked fifth individually at 133 pounds by TrackWrestling.com and comes into Friday's event with an 18-3 mark. Kasunic will wrestle at 197 pounds and carries a team-best 19-3 record and a No. 10 ranking nationally.

Redshirt junior Michael Sprague (21st at 149) and redshirt senior Brett Dempsey (23rd at heavyweight) are also nationally ranked.

American will have its first home event of 2018 on Friday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Navy at 7 p.m.
