WASHINGTON -- The American University wrestling team makes its first public appearance of the 2017-18 season on Sunday morning when it conducts its ranking matches at 10:30 a.m. in Bender Arena.
The matches are designed to get an early season look at some of the Eagles' newcomers who will be making their first collegiate appearance, as well as getting some of the returnees some live competition.
Terao led the Eagles with a 29-7 record a year ago and set a single-season school record with eight technical falls. He had 54 dual-meet points in going 13-1 and comes into his junior year ranked 14th nationally by Trackwrestling.com.
Kasunic was 25-12 a year ago and won nine matches by fall. He is 67-34 in his career and was ranked 17th nationally at 197 pounds by Trackwrestling.com and 19th nationally by Intermat. Kasunic also comes into the new year second in the nation among active wrestlers with 30 career wins by pin.
Michael Sprague finished 24-15 at 149 pounds a year ago and could be poised for a breakout season. Sprague was 7-7 in dual matches last year.
American opens its regular season on Sunday, Nov. 5 in dual matches at Campbell and with Eastern Michigan.
