Kasunic Opens 2017-18 Second Nationally in Career Pins

Jeric Kasunic tries to pin an opponent

WASHINGTON – Over the past three seasons, Jeric Kasunic has exhibited one of the most valued traits in wrestling. The Eagle senior will come into the 2017-18 season with 30 career kills, second all-time at American University behind only the 44 by former NCAA national champion Josh Glenn.

Kasunic was one of the student-athletes listed among national leaders in pins in an article on The Open Mat.com website. Kasunic's 30 pins to begin the new season will rank behind only the 36 pins by Penn State's Zain Rutherford.

A 197-pounder from Benton, Pa., Kasunic qualified for last year's NCAA Championships after placing fourth at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships. One of his nine pins from last season came in the wrestlebacks at nationals.

American will open its 2017-18 schedule on Nov. 5 in a dual match at Campbell. The Eagles' first home appearance at Bender Arena will be Jan. 19 against Navy.
