Kasunic and Terao Survive to Round of 16 Second Consolations at NCAA Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUISJeric Kasunic (197) and Josh Terao (125) will wrestle on Friday, as the two will compete in the Round of 16 Second Consolations. 

Kasunic scored a pinfall with 1:46 left in the match over No. 16 Austin Severn of Central Michigan. Kasunic was leading 7-4 in the third period before he secured the pin. He has a 5-2 advantage after the first period with a takedown, near fall and escape. He added another two escapes in the second and third.

Kasunic will meet Brad Johnson from Oklahoma in bout 445. Johnson defeated No. 15 Ricky Robertson from Wisconsin in the first round, 4-2 and fell to No. 2 Brett Pfarr in the second round. 

Terao fell to Lizak by major decision, 15-6. He will compete against Brock Hudkins from Northern Illinois in bout 383 on Friday morning. Hudkins fell in the first round to Tim Lambert from Nebraska, 9-2 and defeated Noah Gonser from Eastern Michigan, 7-0. 

Terao trailed, 2-0 after the first and then 6-0 after the second. Lizak gained a pair of near falls 14 seconds apart during the second. In the third, Lizak had a takedown and near fall before Terao rallied with six straight points on a reversal and two near falls. Lizak finished the match with a reversal, a near fall and the point for riding time.

Both competitors will need six more wins to capture third place and three to earn All-American status. 

Jason Grimes (184) fell in his first consolation match to Mitch Sliga from Northwestern, 7-2. Grimes trailed 2-1 after the first period and never gained momentum. Sliga added a near fall in the second and a reversal in the third.
