Eagles Drop EIWA Dual After Mid-Match Surge

WASHINGTON – The American University wrestling team was unable to counter a mid-match surge by Binghamton Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5, as the Eagles fell to the Bearcats with a 25-11 final tally.

AU is now 3-8 for the season, 0-7 in EIWA duals, while Binghamton rises to 8-5 overall and 8-2 in conference matchups.

Junior Jeric Kasunic got the scoring going for the Eagle, tallying an early two-point lead over Binghamton's Mark Tracy before a third period takedown secured him the 6-0 decision.  Kasunic now holds a 7-3 dual record for the season, and 17-7 overall.

Sophomore Josh Terao gave the Eagles their only lead of the day, tallying five points after a tech. fall against Steve Bulzomi to bring the team score up to 8 to Binghamton's 6.  This was Terao's sixth tech. fall of the season, and he now builds his record up to 21-4 overall and 9-1 in duals.

Senior Tom Page was the last Eagle to contribute to AU's final tally, taking a 5-2 decision over Tristan Rifanburg to even out his dual record at 2-2, and 11-8 for the season.

The Eagles will continue their three-match homestand on Sunday, Feb. 12 with a noon start against Old Dominion.  The team will host one final match on Friday, Feb. 17, with a 7 p.m. start against George Mason before closing the regular season at Ohio on Feb. 19.
