WASHINGTON – American University wrestling tallied a pair of wins in its first two home duals of the season, overcoming Campbell and Clarion in Bender Arena on Sunday. The Eagles took on Campbell first, claiming six of the ten matches to win 23-13. They went on to win seven of the ten matches against Clarion and beat out the Golden Eagles, 27-11.
Included among the highlights from the day's matches was the performance of sophomore Josh Terao (125), who made his season debut with a 17-9 decision over eighth-ranked Nathan Kraisser from Campbell. Terao returned against Clarion, and put up a technical fall against Brendan Howard in the third period.
Senior Jason Grimes (184) and junior Jeric Kasunic (197) both came away with a fall in one of their two matches. Grimes pinned Campbell's Ville Heino 46 seconds into his first match of the day, and went on to tally a 4-2 win against Clarion's Scott Marmoll.
Kasunic also controlled his first match of the day with a 10-1 decision over Campbell's Willie Bivens. He closed his day with a tight match-up against Clarion's Dustin Conti, pinning the Golden Eagles' junior in overtime after going 1-1 in regulation.
Senior Esteban Gomez-Rivera (133) and sophomore Michael Sprague (149) were the other two Eagles to win both of their matches on Sunday, extending their overall season records to 6-1 and 7-0, respectively.
