WASHINGTON – The American University wrestling team opens its 2015-16 home slate this Monday, Dec. 21, when it hosts Davidson in non-conference dual action at noon in Bender Arena.

The Eagles are coming off a strong performance at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational held Dec. 4-5, tying for 12th place in the team standings with 54.5 points. Three AU wrestlers made the podium at the event, led by senior captain John Boyle, who finished as the runner-up at 157 pounds.

Also placing for the Eagles were senior captain David Terao, who took seventh place at 125 pounds, and sophomore Jeric Kasunic, who placed eighth at 197 pounds.

American enters Monday's contest with a 1-0 record in dual action. The Eagles posted a 27-11 victory over Campbell in their season opener on Nov. 14.

AU currently has three wrestlers listed in the national rankings, led by Terao, who is rated ninth at 125 pounds by InterMat. Boyle (157) is ranked 11th, while Kasunic (197) entered the rankings at 19th following his performance at the CKLV Invitational.

Davidson enters Monday's dual with a 2-4 overall record after falling to Sacred Heart, 44-3, on Dec. 5. Tony Palumbo leads the Wildcats with a 4-4 overall record at 157 pounds, including a 4-2 mark in dual competition.
