Grimes Represents American at NWCA All-Star Classic

ATLANTA – Junior Jason Grimes represented the American University wrestling team on a national stage on Sunday, competing in a showcase match at the 50th-annual NWCA All-Star Classic.

Grimes, a native of Atlanta, dropped an 8-3 decision to Cornell's Brandon Womack at 174 pounds.

Among the experimental rules utilized in this year's event was a three-point takedown.

"Jason wrestled a tough bout and a good opponent," said American head coach Teague Moore. "We have up a nearfall in the second period, which made the difference.

"Late in the third period, Jason executed on a takedown to make it 6-3 and released his opponent to try to narrow the margin, but it was too little, too late.

"This gives us a place to start from and now we focus on our opener at Campbell."

The 2015-16 wrestling season officially starts for the Eagles on Nov. 14, when they head to Buies Creek, N.C., for a dual meet at Campbell.
