ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Winning just three of 10 bouts, the American University wrestling team fell to EIWA foe Navy, 32-10, on Friday evening.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in EIWA competition, while the Mids improved to 3-2 and 1-2 in the EIWA.
American won each of the first two matches, getting a 13-5 major decision from No. 16 David Terao at 125 pounds and a 6-2 decision from Josh Terao at 133 pounds. Navy got on the board with a decision at 141 pounds and took a 9-7 lead in the team scoring with a defensive fall at 149 pounds.
Team captain John Boyle helped regain the lead with a 5-3 decision at 157 pounds, but 13th-ranked Peyton Walsh scored a tech fall for the Mids to put Navy back on top, 14-10.
Navy scored a pair of falls in the next two bouts to clinch the team victory, while adding decisions at 197 pounds and heavyweight.
The Eagles return home this Sunday, Jan. 18, as they host 20th-ranked Old Dominion at 2 p.m.
