Weekend Produces Plenty of Eagle Action

WASHINGTON - Five home games highlight a full slate of American University athletics as men and women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball look to remain undefeated in Patriot League play this weekend. Head coach Barry Goldberg and the women's volleyball team (15-6-0, 7-0-0 PL) welcome a duo of opponents to Bender Arena this weekend, hosting Army on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., followed by a day match against Holy Cross on Saturday at 2 p.m. AU has already played both opponents earlier this season, defeating both the Black Knights and the Crusaders, 3-1. In its last time out, American swept Lehigh, 3-0, winning its 33rd-consectuve Patriot League match.

After a three-game road swing, American University men's soccer will also be home on Saturday, Oct. 20, playing host to Lehigh and taking the pitch at 1 p.m. The Eagles are 2-0-1 in league play and look to remain undefeated in conference action with a win over the Mountain Hawks. American is led by Rookie of the Week Daniel Shannon, who has eight points on the season, combining three goals with two assists.

Fresh off a 2-0 weekend with victories over Lehigh (2-1) and Lafayette (5-0), AU women's soccer returns to its home pitch on Sunday, Oct. 21, hosting defending Patriot League Champion Navy. For the first time since joining the conference in 2001, American University opened Patriot League play 3-0 and is currently tied for first place with Bucknell, with both squads sporting nine points each. Beginning with Sunday's game, the Eagles will close out their 2007 schedule with four consecutive home contests.

Wrapping up its 2007 regular-season home schedule is No. 17 American University field hockey, facing off against Lehigh on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. Celebrating the 2007 senior class, the Eagles will honor Denise Infante, Maggie Hall and Ashley Foley. Currently ranked first in the Patriot League, American University has now won 24-straight regular-season games against conference opponents, dating back to the 2003 season. American is 11-4-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the Patriot League.
