Oct. 1, 2007

WASHINGTON - American University men's soccer player Daniel Shannon (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) has been selected the Brine Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Shannon, who is his first season with the Eagles, tallied the game-winning goal on Saturday in a 2-1 victory over the Black Knights of Army in both team's Patriot League opener. He also played a beautiful ball to the feet of Philip Purdy (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) for an assist earlier in the game to open the game's scoring. Shannon's play helped American win its league opener for the fifth time in the seven years in which it has been a member of the Patriot League. Earlier in the week, Shannon led AU with three shots, including a near-miss late in the game, at William & Mary.

The freshman forward leads AU in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points on the season.

Shannon and the rest of the Eagles remain at home tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they host Columbia at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths and free for children under age two and AU students with ID.
