American University's Cooper Bryant Named BRINE Patriot League Defender of the Week

Sept. 10, 2007

WASHINGTON - Sophomore Cooper Bryant (Niederhausen-Oberseelbach, Germany/General HH Arnold American) has been named the BRINE Patriot League Defender of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9, 2007, league officials announced Monday.

Bryant, one of the Eagles' two center backs, orchestrated a defensive effort that allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action and allowed just 12 shots in a 2-0 weekend for AU. On Friday, Bryant's timely defense virtually shut down Princeton's offense, limiting the Tigers to just four shots on goal in a 2-0 victory. He followed that effort up with another dominating defensive effort on Sunday, when Bryant's defensive corps' first-half effort, in which the Eagles allowed only three shots, allowed American to take a 1-0 lead in the opening period and eventually come away with a 2-1 win over Bowling Green.

The award is the first Defender of the Week in Bryant's career. Bryant was named the BRINE Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 17, 2006.

Bryant and the rest of the Eagles return to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the University of South Florida.
