Washington, D.C. - The American University men's soccer team held its annual Blue/Red inter-squad match on Saturday morning at Reeves Field. The Red team defeated the Blue squad 2-0 on goals by freshmen Jack Scott and Chris Cender.
Jack Scott led the victors with a goal and an assist. The Red team's defending frustrated the Blue team, who carried the majority of the possession. The match was not without controversy as coach Kinney vehemently protested a free kick by Danny Shannon that hit the crossbar and appeared to cross the goal line, however the referee and assistant referee did not allow the goal and the score remained knotted at 0-0.
The Blue team also looked to take leads on two apparent fouls in the box that could have resulted in penalty shots, but the referee chose to let the game play-on.
The Red team converted chances on two counter attacks to win the match 2-0 and give coach Kris Hazard the Commissioners Cup for 2008.
Members of the winning Red team were: Zack Solomon, Tim Hoagland, Chris Cender, Brian McQuinn, Mike Marino, Jack Scott, Luis Martinez, Jamie Davin, Nick Kapus, Chris Leibner, Dor Yasur, Karsten Smith, Alex Tilatti, Ryan Baker and Matt Makowski.
