July 18, 2005

WASHINGTON -

Former American University men's soccer standout Shawn Kuykendall made his Major League Soccer debut with the D.C. United Friday night in a 3-0 home win over the San Jose Earthquakes.

Kuykendall, a midfielder at AU, entered for forward Jaime Moreno in the 81st minute. He played about 12 minutes, including extra time. Kuykendall incurred a yellow card in the 85th minute. He arrived too late on a tackle, according to AU head coach Todd West, who spoke with Kuykendall via telephone over the weekend.

Kuykendall finished fifth all-time in career points, with 75 in his four-year Eagle career. He was drafted by the United after a senior season in which he tallied 24 points on seven goals and 10 assists. With his 10 assists in his final season, he tied AU great and current women's soccer coach Michael Brady for second all-time at AU in career assists with 29.
