American Alum Avery John to Play in the World Cup

WASHINGTON - Former American University men's soccer player Avery John, a 1999 graduate of Kogod, will play for Trinidad & Tobago in the World Cup.

John, a defender/midfielder, played four seasons at American, helping the Eagles to 45 wins during that time. In his sophomore season, John was named First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association and Second Team All-South Atlantic Region. Meanwhile, the Eagles went 17-4-4 that season, winning the CAA Championship and making it to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

John's Trinidad & Tobago team will open Cup play on Saturday, June 10 vs. Sweden. The team is in Group B along with England, Paraguay and Sweden.

Meanwhile, former AU volunteer assistant Ben Olsen is playing for the United States in the World Cup.
