American University Men's Soccer Alumni Update

WASHINGTON - Former American University men's soccer players Jon Pascale ('97), Nate Baker ('07) and Sal Caccavale ('07) were all in the news this past week.

Pascale, who played four years for the Eagles and finished his career in 1996, was named the new head coach at the University of California - San Diego. He comes to the Tritons after assistant coaching positions at Penn, Georgetown and Stanford.

Nate Baker '07 recently signed a contract with the USL's Harrisburg City Islanders.


Baker recently signed a deal with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League's Second Division. The defender, who played alongside Caccavale from 2003-06, has been a versatile player for the City Islanders, playing both defense and midfield.

Meanwhile, Caccavale, the Eagles' eighth all-time leading scorer with 58 career points, has been released from his contract by the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. Caccavale played in one game for the Red Bulls, but made the most of his time, scoring just four minutes into his pro debut. Caccavale, who was drafted in the second round (19th overall) out of American University in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft, was interested in pursuing the completion of his degree.
