Men's Soccer Defeated by Tribe, 1-0

Sept. 25, 2007
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The American University men's soccer team outshot host William & Mary and had several quality scoring chances late, but could not find the back of the net, while an unfortunate bounce provided all the margin the Tribe would need in a 1-0 AU loss at Albert-Daly Field Tuesday.
"We played well and we looked like we were going to win it," Head Coach Todd West said. "It came down to an unlucky bounce."
That unfortunate carom came in the 71st minute. American was putting the pressure on the Tribe, with consecutive corner kicks and a shot by Cameron Petty (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) that forced W&M keeper Andrew McAdams to make a save. McAdams' ensuing punt traveled far over the midfield line and bounced. An American defender stepped up to play a header forward and just missed it, leading to a breakaway for Tribe forward Thomas Price. Price buried the one-on-one chance past Chris Sedlak (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale), the AU keeper's only blemish on an otherwise exemplary night. McAdams was credited with the assist on the play.
AU responded to the goal by becoming more aggressive in its attack. The Eagles managed two shots on goal in the next few minutes, one by Jon Freimark (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) and another by Jamie Davin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), but McAdam was up to the task on both. McAdam finished with five saves for the shutout.
West, though frustrated, feels the team is progressing. "We're moving in the right direction to compete in our league," he said.
American drops to 3-4-1 after losing its last three games. The Eagles return to action in their Patriot League opener on Saturday, Sept. 29, versus Army in the annual Phil Reeves game. There will be a barbeque and free Coca-Cola products, presented by the Residence Hall Association and AU Athletics. In addition, AU Athletics will welcome back members of the 1997 AU men's soccer team, which made headlines when they advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths ages 2-17 and free for children under two and students with proper ID.
