WASHINGTON — The American University men's soccer team hosts George Washington in a local derby match on Monday at Reeves Field.
American head coach Zach Samol will make his Reeves Field debut on Monday against GW. In his first game as AU head coach, the Eagles fell to George Mason, 2-1.
Sophomore Malachy McGovern scored the lone goal for American in the 2-1 defeat on Friday. This was his first collegiate goal in 16 career games.
Junior Jake Agnew made his first start for American on Friday. The Appalachian State transfer made three saves in his Eagles debut.

American features 11 players from eight different countries. The Eagles have four players from England (Oscar McConnell, Malachy McGovern, Nicholas Dimitrijevic and Oliver Price), one from Italy (Fabio Massaro), one from Germany (Tim Neumann), one from Sweden (Viggo Sjoberg), one from Australia (Luke Browning), one from Cameroon (Jerry Zouantcha), one from Nigeria (Alameen Salako) and one from Bulgaria (Rocco Poelzlbauer).
George Washington comes into Monday's contest also having dropped its season opener at UNC Greensboro, 2-0. Led by Preseason All-A10 player Oscar Haynes Brown, the Colonials are looking for a turnaround season after finishing 5-9-3 in 2018. American will see a familiar face on the pitch in former Eagle Max Holdsworth who finished tied last year for the Colonials lead in assists with four.
American will hit the road for the next two weekends with games in North Carolina (Campbell and Appalachian State) and California (California and Stanford).
