WASHINGTON — The American University men's soccer team fell to West Virginia, 3-0, to conclude its non-league schedule.
The Mountaineers finished the game with a 13-8 advantage in shots.
John Mino finished with six saves in 90 minutes. WVU split time in goal between starter Stephen Banick and Jose Santos. Both keepers made two saves.
West Virginia scored twice in the first half with goals from Tom Shepherd and Albert Andres-Llop. Shepherd's goal in the 21st minute was a header off a free kick outside the box taken by Andres-Llop. Less than two minutes later, Andres-Llop converted on a one-timer at the goal mouth off a feed from Jad Arslan.
West Virginia scored its third goal in the 54th minute in front of the net by Lucca Barbaris.
American begins Patriot League play on Saturday, hosting Boston University at 3 p.m.
