WASHINGTON — The American University men's soccer team heads to the Empire State on Friday evening for its first-ever matchup against the Albany Great Danes.
American (1-4-1) is coming off a 1-1 tie with Binghamton on Monday afternoon. Max Holdsworth scored the lone AU goal off a great feed from Tim Neumann. The Eagles allowed the game-tying goal minutes later but continued a strong offensive attack on the Bearcats and finished with a 25-6 edge in shots. Holdsworth, Neumann and Vinny Barone are tied for the team lead with two points.
John Mino has fit in as a reliable starting keeper over the last five games. Mino has allowed one goal or less in two of those games and posts a 1.96 goals against average in 504 minutes.
UAlbany is 3-0 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium and a 3-2 overall record. The Great Danes protect their home territory well, winning the last seven games and outscoring the opposition, 21-2.
Afonso Pinheiro leads the Great Danes with 10 points (4g, 2a). Daniel Krutzen is second on the squad in points with seven and leads the team in assists with five.
American and Albany share Marist as a common opponent this season. The Red Foxes won both contests.
