WASHINGTON — Three more non-conference games remain before Patriot League season starts for the American University men's soccer team. On Monday afternoon, the Eagles will host Binghamton at noon.
The Eagles dropped a 3-0 deficit to Marist last Thursday at Reeves Field. The team has not scored in the last two games and has been out scored 7-0. The lone goal of the season was scored by Vinny Barone three games ago against Oregon State at the Gonzaga Tournament.
American has been shut out four times, but have shown a lot of positive play throughout the early season. Trey Echazarreta, Jerry Zouantcha and Matt O'Connell have impressed during their rookie season. John Mino has stepped up and grabbed the starting spot in goal.
The freshmen trio have combined for 17 of the 36 shots by the Eagles.
Mino is 1-2 on the season with a 2.00 goals against average in four games.
Binghamton fell to George Mason, 4-3, in overtime on Friday. Nikos Psarras scored twice and Noah Luescher tied the contest with less than four minutes remaining. Both sit atop the Bearcats leaderboard in points. Luescher has nine points (3g, 3a) and Psarras has eight points (4g).
Alejandro Cubillo has started all five games in goal for Binghamton with a 1.76 goals against average and a .710 save percentage.
