WASHINGTON — The American University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 non-conference match to Marist on Thursday afternoon at Reeves Field.
American (1-4) outshot the Red Foxes, 16-12, but Marist capitalized twice in the first half and once late to put the game away.
Allen Gavilanes gave the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a chip shot from 25 yards out. Juan Parada was credited with his first of two assists. Marist added its second goal in the 24th minute on Samad Bounthong's rebound in front of the net.
Marist scored its third goal in the 72nd minute on a one-timer redirected goal from Brendan Gallivan with assists from Parasda and Gavilanes.
John Mino made three saves before he was relieved by Will McCreight in the 79th minute. Vinny Barone and Nicholas Dimitrevic led the Eagles with six combined shots on goal.
Marist keeper Mark Rajovic made nine saves for the Red Foxes.
American will host Binghamton on Monday at noon.
