SPOKANE, Wash. — The American University men's soccer team dropped the final contest out west, falling to host Gonzaga, 4-0, on Sunday evening at the Gonzaga Tournament.
American (1-3) trailed 2-0 after the first half before the Bulldogs added two more five minutes apart in the second.
The Bulldogs scored the opening goal in the 18th minute off a pass by Connor Ourada to Joe Corner. Nearly four minutes later, Ben White beat Mino on a penalty kick to put the Zags ahead 2-0. Gonzaga edged the Eagles, 7-5, in shots after 45 minutes.
In the second, Jaden Crisler scored in the 67th minute off a double header that was assisted by Nick Ulowetz and White. Gonzaga scored its fourth goal in the 72nd minute off a cross by Corner to Ulowetz.
Matt O'Connell led the Eagles with two shots on goal. Vinny Barone and Tim Neumann each added one shot on goal.
Ben Willis made four saves in the shutout while John Mino made one.
American will return to D.C. to host Marist on Thursday and Binghamton next Monday, Sept. 11 as part of the Capitol Cup.
