After a second-straight Patriot League Regular Season Championship and reaching the Conference Tournament Title Game for the fourth-consecutive year, head coach Todd West's squad looks to reload yet again as the American University men's soccer program has announced the addition of eight student-athletes.
"This is a quality recruiting class and our staff has expectations that several of the freshmen can come in and contribute right away and perhaps even earn starting roles in the program," said West. "It is a balanced class with three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders and a goalkeeper."
Sam Agre (Philadelphia Pa. / William Penn Charter)
Agre, a defender/midfielder, is a three-time All-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection and a three-time All-League recipient. As a graduate of the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, he was an honor student all four years. Former AU standout Sean Albright also attended Charter before his AU career.
Lucas Belanger (Alexandria, Va. / Mt. Vernon)
Belanger, a goalkeeper, is a two-time All-District and two-time All-Region player at Mt. Vernon. He was awarded First team All-State honors this season while also playing for Virginia ODP and McLean Academy. Belanger's sister, Charlene, is the starting goalie for the American women's soccer team.
Brad Bozych (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Benet Academy)
As a team member of the Galaxy SC U17 team, Bozych, a forward, led the team to the Illinois State Cup, National League Championship and 2012 National Championship title. Bozych was an Illinois First Team All-State selection this past season, as well as an All Conference Selection in 2012. He was awarded the Pepsi and Chicago Fire All Academic/All-State selection for Illinois in 2012. Bozych was also named the Illinois ESC Conference Player of the Year and was the Benet Academy team captain.
Michael Cherry (Fairfax, Va. / WT Woodson)
Cherry, a versatile defender or target forward, is an All-State honorable mention selection, First-Team All-Region and All-District honoree, captaining WT Woodson the past two seasons. A three-year starter and two-time team MVP, Cherry also played for ODP, a National Championship Finalist in 2012. He was also the captain on the Annandale U18 team, the No. 1-ranked team in Virginia and No. 8 team in the country.
Haden Cosman (New York, N.Y. / Berkshire Prep)
Cosman, a midfielder, is fresh off a 2012 New England Prep School Class A Championship at Berkshire where he accrued numerous accolades. He was named to the ESPN Rise Massachusetts, Class of 2012 Watch List and was a 2011 Prep School All-Star. Cosman also played for Boston Bolts Academy.
Chris Fanet (Fairfax, Va. / WT Woodson)
Fanet, a midfielder/forward and teammate of fellow classmate Michael Cherry, was a part of the Virginia State ODP National Runner-Up team. He was captain of Annandale Force, a squad that was ranked eighth in the nation and first in the State. Fanet was also a four-year starter for WT Woodson and captain during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Joe Iraola (Mahopac, N.Y. / Mahopac)
Iraola, a forward, was an All-Conference selection and league MVP, while captaining Mahopac for two seasons. He set a Mahopac High School record with 45 goals and received NSCAA All-Region honors his senior year. Iraola was also a Regional ODP selection from 2010-2012.
Dale Ludwig (Palmyre, Va. / Fluvanna County)
Ludwig, a forward/midfielder, is a part of the Region I Olympic Development Program. He was named a Korrio Player to Watch after a plethora of awards. Ludwig is a four-time District-Region I selection, an All-Tournament Team, 1995 NCAA Interregional selection in 2011, and won Jefferson District Regular-Season titles in 2009 and 2010.
