KITTY HAWK, N.C. - American University senior Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./ Salesianum) shot rounds of 78 and 77 to finish with a two-day total of 155, which placed him in a tie for 32nd at the 25th annual ODU/Seascape Collegiate. As a team the Eagles finished 11th with a team score of 625.
Sophomore Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./ Ridgewood) and freshman Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nv. / The Meadows School) both finished in a tie for 37th (with three other golfers). Shagin posted rounds of 76 and 80 for a total of 156 while Smith was just the opposite with a 80 and 76 en route to his 156.
Freshman Billy Lacey (Old Tappan, N.J./ Old Tappan) finished three strokes in back of Shagin and Smith with a two-round total of 159, good for a share of 48th. Lacey shot a 74 on the first day, which was the best round of any Eagle for the tourney, and an 85 on the second day. Freshman Kevin Horan (Marina Del Ray, Calif./ Loyola) finished 63rd with scores of 90 and 84.
Virginia Commonwealth shot a 589 as a team to capture the team title for the second straight year. Campbell was second at 593.
Drexel's Patrick Hardin won the individual title after shooting a 142, including a 70 in the final round.
Americn will now be idle until next spring. Their first match will be at the University of West Florida in the Emerald Coast Collegiate (Gulf Breeze, Fla.)
