American Finishes Second at Bridgewater Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Freshman Kevin Horan (Marina Del Rey, Calif. / Loyola) shot a 37 on the front nine and a 36 on the back for a round of 73 to lead American University to a share for first place with Hampden-Sydney in the Bridgewater College Invitational. However, AU lost the first-place trophy because of a tiebreaker.

Horan's first collegiate tournament certainly did not bother him. His 36 for the back nine was the top score of any AU player and only two others had a better nine holes. Fellow freshman Billy Lacey (Old Tappan, N.J. / Old Tappan) was just two shots back as he fired a 38 and 37 for a total score of 75.

Sophomore Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) opened up with a 37 and followed with a 39 for a final score of 76 while freshman Jordan Zwick (Rochester, N.Y. / Pittsford Sutherland) shot an 80 after scores of 41 and 39.

American and Hampden-Sydney both finished with team scores of 304, but the tie-breaker was each team's fifth counter. Nathan Huff shot a 79 for Hampden-Sydney while freshman Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nv. / The Meadows School) shot an 81. He opened with a 43 but finished strong, shooting a 38 on the back nine.

American will next compete in the Cornell Invitational which will begin on September 25.
