American Finishes Second at Bethany Beach Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - American University's men's golf team scored a 616 to take home second place in the Bethany Beach Invitational. George Washington took home team honors after posting a 603.
Sophomore Adam Kolloff (Boston, Mass./Lawrence Academy) led the Eagles with a final score of 152 after posting rounds of 75 and 77. His score left him in a tie for fourth among individual players. Freshman Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) also netted a Top 10 finish after hitting a 154 (75-79). Smith finished tied for 8th, his best performace of the year.
Sophomore Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) tied for 11th in the tourney and third on the team. He posted rounds of 76 and 80 for a final score of 156. Freshman Alex Wenzel (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) put up a 78 and 79 (157) to finish fourth on the team and it left him tied for 14th overall. Fellow freshman Kevin Horan (Marina Del Ray, Calif./Loyola) shot an 82 in the first round but came back with a 77 in the final round. His score of 159 was good for a tie for 19th.
American finished 13 shots behind GW, but four shots ahead of Columbia. Patriot League foes Bucknell and Colgate also competed. The Bison finished fourth (631) while the Raiders were eighth (661). Joseph Kim of Columbia took home individual honors after shooting a 147.
American is off until Saturday, April 23, when they travel to Bucknell to compete in the Patriot League Championship.
