American University Men's Basketball Signs Two Players to National Letters of Intent

WASHINGTON - The American University men's basketball team has signed Stephen Lumpkins and Mike Technow to National Letters of Intent to begin playing for the Eagles in the 2008-09 season, Head Coach Jeff Jones announced Friday.

Lumpkins is a 6-8, 195 lbs., left-handed forward out of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif. He averaged 14.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in his junior season, after which he was named the San Mateo County Player of the Year and the San Mateo County Times Player of the Year. He was also selected to play in the Sac vs. Bay Northern California All-Star game and the Bay Area Top-100. Lumpkins also was named First Team All-West Catholic Athletic League and First Team All-County. A versatile athlete, Lumpkins was also recruited by several NCAA Division I schools as a left-handed pitcher.

Technow is a 6-9, 230 lbs., forward from Boca Raton High School in Boca Raton, Fla. In the 2006-07 season, he averaged 13.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.8 blocks and 2.5 assists per game. He was named First Team All-Area and Second Team All-County. Technow was rated a Top-Three Shot Blocker in Florida and was a Top-100 Florida Prospect.

"We look forward to them bring to our team a combination of skill, size, length, high basketball IQ and competitive spirit. Stephen and Mike are both quality athletes, excellent students and outstanding young men, and we anticipate their contributions to our team and the American University community to be significant."
