WASHINGTON - The American University men's basketball team has placed a league-high six student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, league officials announced Wednesday.

To be named to the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have garnered at least a 3.20 grade point average in the spring semester and earned a varsity letter.

Sophomore forward Travis Lay (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) led all Eagles and the league with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. The 6-4 political science major played in 25 games in the 2005-06 season, starting three, while averaging 2.4 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per contest.

Brayden Billbe (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), Brian Gilmore (Chesapeake, Va./Fork Union Military Academy), Paulius Joneliunas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Roanoke Catholic (Va.)), Sekou Lewis (Cleveland, Ohio/The Pendleton School (Fla.)) and Craig Weinstein (Tarzana, Calif./Harvard Westlakes School) also earned spots on the Honor Roll

American's six selections were more than one-third of the eight-team Patriot League's total honorees and two more than the next closest team, Bucknell.
