WASHINGTON - American University guard Linas Lekavicius (Silale, Lithuania/The Miller School [Va.]) led his Lithuanian team to the championship game versus Russia in the Global Games, held this past week in Dallas, Texas.
Lekavicius, who will be a senior at AU in the fall, was the Lithuanian's leading scorer in three of its four games. The 5-11 guard averaged 22.25 points per game while hitting 49.3 percent of his shots, including 33.3 percent from behind the arc and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. In the team's game versus Serbia, Lekavicius dropped 36 points.
The Lithuanians made it to the championship game of the tournament, losing to Russia in the final, despite a double-double from Lekavicius. Lekavicius hit nine-of-19 shots to finish with 21 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
