March 24, 2005

WASHINGTON - American University basketball players Andre Ingram (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and Craig Weinstein (Tarzana, Calif./Harvard Westlakles School) have been named co-captains for the 2005-06 season, head coach Jeff Jones announced Thursday.

"Both Andre and Craig have worked very hard to earn the respect of the coaches and their teammates," Jones said. "I am confident they will do a great job of leading us into next season and throughout the year."

Ingram garnered First Team All-Patriot League honors for his efforts in 2004-05. He was second in the Patriot League in scoring at 15.3 points per game and finished third in three-pointers made per game at 2.14. He finished second on the team in assists with 58 and third in steals at 32. He also was second on the team in rebounding at 4.5 rebounds per game.

Ingram was also selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches to the 2005 NABC All-District 4 Second Team. The last Patriot League player selected to the NABC All-District squad was Tim Szatko of Holy Cross. Szatko was named to the 2003 District 1 Second Team.

Weinstein has lettered all three years for the Eagles and this past season he posted career highs for points (two), rebounds (two) and minutes played (17 vs. Colgate).

American finished the 2004-05 campaign with a 16-12 record. It was the fourth straight winning season for AU under the tutelage of coach Jeff Jones. The last time the Eagles posted four straight winning seasons was the 1974-75 campaign when American finished a run of five straight winning seasons. Jones is 75-71 at American and is fifth on the coaching ladder.
