WASHINGTON — For the first time since March 8, 2014, the American University men's basketball team will host a Patriot League Tournament contest at Bender Arena as fourth-seeded Eagles welcome fifth-seeded Navy on Thursday at 7 p.m.

  • Sa'eed Nelson finished the regular season on a strong note with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against Holy Cross on Saturday. Nelson shot 8 of 11 from the field and made all five free throws.
  • Jacob Boonyasith showed why he loves the color Purple with 19 points against the Crusaders. In two games this season, Boonyasith has dropped 36 points against Holy Cross shooting 62 percent from the outside.
  • No one can stop a determined Sam Iorio on both ends of the court. Iorio had 17 points and five rebounds while drilling four 3-pointers at Holy Cross. Iorio is coming off a zero-point performance against Lehigh in last home game.

  • One of the best teams to hold a lead late in games, Navy is 7-0 when leading in the final five minutes of PL games. On the flip side, Navy is 1-10 when trailing late in games.
  • Hasan Abdullah was voted to the All-PL Third Team and All-PL Defensive team after leading third in the league in steals (1.9). Abdullah is second on his team with 10.3 points per game and is shooting 39 percent from the floor.
  • George Kiernan leads the squad with 12.4 points per game and finished the season scoring in double figures in each of the final five games. Kiernan scored 17 points twice against American this season.
