Boonyasith Earns Patriot League Rookie of the Week Award

Jacob Boonyasith

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — American University men's basketball freshman Jacob Boonyasith was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after a breakout week for the Eagles.

Boonyasith averaged 15.0 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and 53 percent from 3-point range (8-for-15) to help American defeat Loyola Maryland and Holy Cross last week. He scored a career-high 17 points in his first collegiate start against Holy Cross to capture his first weekly honor of the season.

Boonyasith had 13 points in 28 minutes against Loyola on Wednesday and was a major part of the depth rotation used by Coach Brennan.

American is the only team in the Patriot League to have two separate players claim weekly awards — Player (Sa'eed Nelson and Sam Iorio) and Rookie (Josh Alexander and Jacob Boonyasith).

AU visits Navy on Wednesday before return to Bender to face Army West Point next Saturday.

Saturday's contest will be the Stafford H. "Pop" Cassell Hall of Fame Day where American University will honor former men's basketball player Andre Ingram, field hockey sisters Camila and Denise Infante and head volleyball coach Barry Goldberg. Tickets are still available for the cocktail reception and induction dinner by calling 202-885-3001 or visit AUeagles.com/eaglesclub.
