@AU_MBasketball Snaps Skid with Season Sweep of Boston U., 60-56

Sam Iorio led the Eagles with 22 points

WASHINGTON – American University freshman Sam Iorio finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and five assists to help the Eagles snap a seven-game losing streak with a 60-56 victory over Boston University in a Patriot League men's basketball game on Wednesday.

The Eagles improved to 6-20 and 3-12 in the PL, while the Terriers fell to 12-14 and 8-7 in the league.

Sa'eed Nelson added 17 points for the Eagles, with Larry Motuzis chipping in 13.

Max Mahoney led BU with 25 points and eight rebounds, with Cedric Hankerson finishing with 14 points.

The Eagles completed a season sweep of the Terriers, having won in Boston earlier in the season.

American hit 46 percent from the floor in the first half and drained 6 of 15 behind the arc in taking a 35-28 halftime lead. Iorio had 14 points by halftime.

BU took a 53-51 lead with 5:11 left in the game, but a clutch 3-pointer with 2:42 to play snapped a tie and put the Eagles back ahead. A free throw from Hankerson cut the deficit to two, but Nelson hit a layup with 26 seconds left for the final margin.

American hits the road for its next two games, playing Saturday at Lafayette at 2 p.m. and at Holy Cross next Wednesday. The Eagles return to Bender Arena on Saturday, Feb. 24 for their final game of the regular season, hosting Bucknell.
