Turnovers Stop @AU_MBasketball Comeback in Road Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y.  — The American University men's basketball team turned the ball over 17 times, but it was Colgate's 23 points off the mishaps that led the Raiders to an 83-69 win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon. 

American dropped to 5-16 on the season and 2-8 in the Patriot League. The Raiders are now 12-9 overall and 7-3 in the PL. 

Sam Iorio and Sa'eed Nelson each finished with 24 points to lead the Eagles in the losing effort. Iorio had a team-best seven rebounds while Nelson had three steals and three assists. 

Larry Motuzis was the third Eagle in double figures with 16 points in 40 minutes. 

Colgate led 43-29 at the half after AU held a small 20-19 lead on a Motuzis layup with 9:41 left in the half.

In the second half, American cut the difference to within a single possession (63-60) at the 6:59 mark with a layup by Nelson but the Raiders finished the game on a 20-9 run.

Jordan Burns had a game-high 27 points for the Raiders and Will Rayman added 25 in the win.

American returns to Bender Arena on Wednesday to play host to Navy.
