BOSTON — Sam Iorio set a season-best 26 points and American used a 13-0 run to end the first half en route to a 69-58 win over Patriot League-leading Boston University on Wednesday evening at Case Gym.
With the win, American improves to 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the Patriot League. Boston falls to 9-9 and 5-2 in league play.
Iorio had one of his best games as an Eagle adding seven rebounds, six steals and four assists while shooting 5 of 10 from the outside.
The Terriers led 24-16 after a 3-pointer by Will Goff with 7:26 remaining in the half. From the point on, American's defense stopped the Terriers until a minute into the second into the second half. AU led 29-24 lead at intermission with Iorio leading the way with nine points.
American unleashed its deep fury in the second half and broke a 41-all score with three straight 3-pointers by Nelson, Bragg and Iorio to put AU ahead by nine with 8:39 left. Boston closed to 57-51 with 2:38 to play but a pair of Iorio 3-pointers in the stretch helped preserve the Eagles' advantage.
Boston was led by Cedric Hankerson with 14 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Scanlon had nine points and nine rebounds.
American will return to Bender Arena to host Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game can be seen live on NBC Sports Washington.
Members of the 2007-08 Patriot League Championship team will be honored in a special halftime presentation.
