BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Four American University players finished in double figures, but an early lead by Lehigh led the Mountain Hawks to a 76-66 victory over the Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Stabler Arena.
With the loss, American drops to 4-13 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League. Lehigh improves its record to 8-9 and 3-3 in league play.
Sa'eed Nelson led the Eagles with 16 points and six assists while Larry Motuzis and Cheikh 'CB' Diallo combined for 27 points with six 3-pointers made.
Marvin Bragg added good looks from the outside with 10 points and five rebounds.
As a team, American hit a season-best 12 3-pointers after knocking down 11 in the previous game against Loyola.
The Eagles trailed 35-23 at the break and the Mountain Hawks led by as many as 15 with 3:35 left in the contest before American went on a 12-3 run late to cut it to a two-possession game.
Lehigh was led by Pat Andree with 19 points as part of four players in double figures for the Mountain Hawks. James Karnik had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Returning to the Lehigh Valley area for his first game, Sam Iorio finished with two points before fouling out in 29 minutes of play.
American will travel up to Boston University on Wednesday evening before returning to Bender Arena next Saturday afternoon for a meeting with Lafayette at 2 p.m.
The game can be seen regionally on NBC Sports Washington with a special halftime ceremony honoring the 10th Anniversary of the 2007-08 NCAA Tournament team.
