Beckton, Jr. Commits to Men's Basketball for 2017-18 Season

WASHINGTON — American University men's basketball head coach Mike Brennan has added another piece to the talented group of incoming freshmen with guard Stacy Beckton, Jr. out of Port Orange, Florida.

Beckton, Jr., grew up around the college game as his dad spent over a decade as an assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Florida.

"We add another versatile guard to our roster," said Brennan. "Stacy has the rare ability to be both a distributor and a scorer. His length and athleticism should help him become an effective defender on and off the ball."

Beckton, Jr., finished his senior campaign at Atlantic High School averaging 17.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.6 assists per game. He was nominated for the Florida Class 7A Player of the Year Award and was selected for the All-Florida Class 7A First Team. Beckton, Jr., was the Most Valuable Player of the North/South All-Star Game and the Sunshine Classic.

He played AAU for Showtime Hoops.

Beckton, Jr., joins a Sam Iorio, Drew Lamont, Marvin Bragg, Jesse Little and Max Hoekstra as members of the incoming class at American.
