Men's Basketball Falls to Boston University, 71-51

BOSTON — American trailed by two (46-44) with 8:34 left, but Boston University finished the game on a 25-7 run en route to a 71-51 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday evening at Case Gym.

Freshman Delante Jones had a team-high 18 points and senior Jesse Reed had 12. American shot 42 percent from the field and struggled from the outside and at the glass.

Boston's Eric Fanning and Cheddi Mosely led the Terriers with 25 and 20 points, respectively. The Terriers were effective shooting 52 percent from the field with 19 made free throws and eight three-point baskets. The hosts outrebounded American 30-20 and scored 30 points inside.

The Terriers held a 41-29 lead at halftime after American battled back from a seven-point edge and cut the lead to two (14-12) on a layup by Reed with 13:09 left in the half. Boston then took a 10-point lead, 22-12, on Mosely's inside basket at 10:48.

The Eagles surged back in the contest and made it a four-point game (22-18) with 8:42. BU pushed its lead back to double figures late in the half.

American went on a 15-5 run in the second half to pull within two midway through the contest. However, Boston resurged and held AU scoreless for seven minutes.

The Eagles return home to Bender Arena on Saturday against Army West Point on Hall of Fame Day. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and can participate in AU Athletics' eighth annual silent auction, benefitting AU student-athletes beginning at 3 p.m. on the Bender concourse.

At halftime of the contest, American will recognize the Class of 2016 inductees into the Cassell Hall.
