WASHINGTON – The American University men's basketball team is going back to the Patriot League Championship for the second-straight year thanks large in part to senior guard John Schoof. The senior captain led the Eagles to two road, upset victories last week and has been honored as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.
Schoof was near perfect in a 73-62 semifinal win at No. 2 Colgate on Sunday. He made four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points, adding six rebounds and two blocks. Schoof led five players in double figures as AU set a season-high team mark shooting 61.9 percent from the field.
At No. 3 Lehigh on Thursday, Schoof battled foul trouble but led AU with a game-high three treys, finishing with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Schoof continues prove he is one the greatest 3-point shooters in American and Patriot League history. He is one of just four Eagles to reach 200 3-pointers made and ranks among the top five in conference history with 41.1 3-point percentage.
American advances to play at No. 4 seed Lafayette, which upset top-seeded Bucknell, in the title game on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m., live on the CBS Sports Network. It will be American's seventh championship game in school history.
