A new era in American University men's basketball begins on Friday, November 8, as first-year head coach Mike Brennan leads the Eagles to Fairfax, Va., when AU opens the 2013-14 season against George Mason at 7 p.m.

Fans who can't make it to the game can tune in to Federal News Radio for a live audio stream of the game via FederalNewsRadio.com with Dan Laing (play-by-play) and Jeremy Huber (analyst) on the call, starting at 6:45 p.m.

The last time Brennan was on the bench for the Eagles, AU clinched its second-straight Patriot League title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for second consecutive year in 2009.

Coach Brennan implements a new, up-tempo system while relying on top returners Tony Wroblicky and John Schoof. Wroblicky leads all Patriot League returnees in field goal percentage (54.4), while Schoof was ranked in the top-10 nationally in 3-point percentage (50.7, 70-of-138).

Wroblicky and Schoof are set to be joined by sophomore guard Jesse Reed in the starting lineup. Reed joined the starters late last season and looks to build off a freshman campaign in which he earned at Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.

Junior transfer Darius Gardner is eligible to play this season and should also step into the starting lineup for the Eagles. Gardner led Stephen F. Austin in assist per game (3.2) in 2011-12. Junior forward Kyle Kager mans the forward spot for AU.

Rising sophomores Zach Elcano and Marko Vasic earned valuable experience last season and look to make an impact off the bench. The AU reserves are bolstered by the return of fifth-year senior Jordan Borucki and redshirt junior Austin Carroll.

American welcomes six freshmen to campus this season, including big man Yilret Yiljep and guards Charlie Jones, Justice Montgomery, Jalen Rhea, Kade Kager and Langdon Neal.

It will be the 41st meeting between George Mason and American, with the Patriots owning a 30-10 all-time series advantage. The two teams have not met since the 2005-06 season.

Mason returns 10 letterwinners, including all five starters from last season's team which went 22-16 overall and advanced to the finals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

Leading scorer Sherrod Wright averaged 16.5 points per game last year and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Preseason Second Team.
