Men’s Basketball Announces 2013-14 Schedule; Watch Video
Men's basketball head coach Mike Brennan has announced the American Eagles' basketball schedule, featuring 11 home contests, 18 Patriot League games and road trips to 2012-13 nationally-ranked foes and NCAA participants, Ohio State and St. Mary's (Calif.).
The Eagles open their slate on the road against area rival George Mason on Friday, November 8 before beginning home action at Bender Arena with another regional foe, UMBC, on Thursday, November 14.
American will truly be road warriors in the first half of the season, playing 10 of their first 13 games away from the friendly confines of Bender Arena. The Eagles begin a four-game road swing on Wednesday, November 20, traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to take on perennial national-power, Ohio State. The away games continue with opponents that visited D.C., last season: Mount St. Mary's (Nov. 23), Columbia (Nov. 26) and St. Francis (Pa.) (Nov. 30).
AU begins December with two home games, welcoming Howard on Wednesday, December 4 and Brown on Saturday, December 7. The Eagles then close out 2013 with a West Coast trip, taking on St. Mary's (Calif.) on Thursday, December 19 and San Francisco on Sunday, December 22. The final game of the calendar year comes on Sunday, December 29 at UMES.
2014 brings about the start of the Patriot League schedule, which begins with a road game against defending league-champion Bucknell on Thursday, January 2. The away tests continue with Holy Cross (Jan. 5), Colgate (Jan. 11), Lehigh (Jan. 15), Army (Jan. 25), Loyola (Feb. 5), Lafayette (Feb. 15), Boston University (Feb. 19) and Navy (Feb. 26).
American's first conference challenge at Bender Arena comes on January 8 with new league member, Loyola. The Eagles also take on Lafayette (Jan. 18), Boston University (Jan. 22), Navy (Jan 29), Holy Cross (Feb. 1), Colgate (Feb. 8), Lehigh (Feb. 12) and Army (Feb. 22), before closing out the regular season with Bucknell on Saturday, March 1, on Senior Day.
Brennan and the Eagles are primed to make the most of tough slate of games that includes two new league challenges, three 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifiers and a plethora of road tests before participating in the new, 10-team, Patriot League Tournament, which will be played entirely at home sites. The First Round begins on March 3, with quarterfinal action on March 5, before the semifinals on November 8 and the Patriot League Championship game on March 12.
